Meet Ben!

Ben Fogt joined our Artisan Foodworks team in November, 2012. Ben grew up in Marysville, Ohio, home of Scott's fertilizer and Honda. Spent a decade in Columbus, Ohio, starting college in Music Industry Business Management and finishing with degrees in Philosophy and World Religions. He married his lovely wife Deborah and moved to Fort Wayne, IN. He joined the Hawkins Family Farm CSA in 2006 and have been seekers of local food ever since. They have two active boys sons - Tristan (3) and Duncan, who will be 5 at the end of April!

Ben is the proprietor and chef of The Flatrock Flatbread Company (named after the river). He makes gourmet pizzas, breads, and desserts in the FFC's mobile, brick, wood-fired oven at farmers markets and festivals as well as private events around the Midwest.

His favorite 240sweet marshmallow flavor is Salty Caramel Swirl. He even puts them on his pizzas!

Recipe: Magic Cookie Bars

Chocolate, coconut, butterscotch, shortbread, and toasted salty caramel marshmallow all in one bite? It must be magic!

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cup shortbread crumbs
  • 6 Tbsp butter
  • 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk
  • 10 oz bag bittersweet chocolate chips (or 14 oz bag semi sweet chips)
  • 1 1/2 cup flaked unsweetened coconut
  • 1 cup butterscotch chips
  • 2 treat bag-sized 240sweet salty caramel marshmallows, cut into quarters (or a bag of petites!)

Preheat oven to 350F. Melt butter in a 9x13 pan. Pour shortbread crumbs over melted butter, mix well with fork and press into pan to form a crust.  Drizzle 1/2 can of sweetened condensed milk over the crust. Sprinkle chocolate chips, coconut, then butterscotch chips. Scatter 240sweet marshmallow pieces over the pan. Drizzle with remaining sweetened condensed milk. Bake 25-30 minutes until golden brown on top. Cool completely, cut, enjoy! :)

Meet Kelly!

Kelly Smit joins our team all the way from the Canadian Rockies! She and her family loaded up their truck & RV and arrived Clampett-style in Columbus in September 2012.

In addition to two small boys, a husband, and a dog, Kelly brings over 20 years of hospitality experience with her. As an Events Manager and Guest Services expert she has worn many hats over the years. Her first love is Event Planning, as there is no better job satisfaction than seeing a project come to life.

Kelly's favorite 240sweet marshmallow is the Bacon Maple Toffee because, c'mon, BACON!

Recipe: Magic Marshmallow Crescent Puffs

Where did the marshmallow go? Children and grownups alike will enjoy this sweetly mystifying treat. Use your favorite 240sweet flavor and get the kids to help you prepare these crisp puffs for a spring surprise.

Ingredients:

  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent dinner rolls
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 2 treat bag-sized 240sweet marshmallows, cut into quarters (or a bag of petites!)
  • 1/4 cup 240sweet Cinnamon Sugar

Heat your oven to 375F. Spray 8 medium muffin cups with cooking spray.

Pop the can of dough and separate it into 8 triangles. Spread your first triangle out flat. Place 1/4 piece of a large 240sweet marshmallow (your choice of flavor!) - or 2-3 petite puffs - on the shortest side of the triangle. Roll the dough up, starting at the shortest side and rolling it around the marshmallow to the opposite point. Make sure the marshmallow is completely covered by the dough and pinch the edges to seal them tight. Once they're sealed, place the wrapped roll in a muffin cup.
When every cup is full, brush the tops of the dough rolls with butter and sprinkle with 240sweet Cinnamon Sugar. This will make for a sweet and crispy crust!

Bake 12-15 minutes or until golden brown. Cool in the pan 1 minute before removing your crescent puffs. Let them cool a few minutes more until they're just warm - then serve and take a peek inside.

FFA members create November Marshmallow of the Month Club flavors!

FFA Week

Name the Flavor Contest Winners

for the November Marshmallow of the Month Club

In October, over 550 FFA members from across the United States visited the 240sweet Studio to learn about artisan marshmallow making from Chef Alexa.

We loved interacting with our country's future agricultural leaders! They asked great questions about why we choose the ingredients we do to make marshmallows.

Over 200 FFA members submitted entries in the Name the Flavor Contest. While it was a hard decision, Chef Alexa chose three to be this month's Marshmallow of the Month Club flavors. The contest winners received a shipment of the November Marshmallow of the Month Club with a mug and hot chocolate mix (and extra marshmallows to share). In her monthly letter, Chef Alexa included the names of each winner and a description of the marshmallows.
